After State’s acceptance of ‘education’ as a right of the children, the vision of ‘education for all’ has taken a new dimension. Our intervention in ‘education’ is more research based. We have been facilitating ‘quality education’ to our focus communities.

1) Facilating education of Children facing linguistic variances :

The indigenous communities of Malkangiri has a different mother tongue. The children are facing difficulties in learning processes in the initial years. We have been facilitating education through our innovative coaching approach. Child Support Centres are running in three villages, where children are being oriented on the local official language of Odiya. The additional challenge here is to build their competences to cope with the present curriculum and the progress in particular subjects like Mathematics and Science.

The process has been initiated from 2008. By the end of 2011, a total of 125 children in the age group of 5- 10 years has been benefited by this activity.

2) Running of creche center for working women :

Due to increase in economical pressure over rural women, they often have to go in search of work. Mostly they have to work as labourers in the unorganized sectors. The work hours remained to be more than 8 hours. In a situation where the male member of the households also has to remain outside during the period, the children of those families became more vulnerable. Lower the age of the child, more is the vulnerability. There appears the question of survivability of the child, not speak about other child rights.

We have been running a crèche centre to support such children in Dhankera village of Delang block of Puri. The total numbers of children supported are 25. The age group remained from 2 years to 4 years. All the children belong to BPL and socially neglected households. The centre runs from 8 am to 5 pm. Besides early childhood care, we are also supporting them with some basic nutritional components. The centre supervisor is a woman from the same village. She has to take care of the children till the mother arrived to take the child in the evening. Some play materials and learning tools are made available in the centre. Medicines are also made available to the children during illness. The process is in continuation since 2005. More than 350 families has been benefited by programme in the area, this since from the beginning. We are planning to expand such activities in other such needed areas.
